Grapes have been cultivated in the area of Macul since 1564, when the king of Spain granted the Hacienda Macul to Juan Jufré, a Spanish “conquistador” However it wasn’t until 1856 when Luis Cousino purchased the 1000-acres Macul Estate which already had 54 acres planted with vines.
14 years later the winery was built, followed 2 years later by an underground cellar. In 1970, after the Chilean land reform and with an imminent threat of expropriation of the Cousiño Winery, Carlos Cousiño Subercaseaux along with his father takes on the task to keep the family legacy alive until this very day.
The name of this wine was inspired by Isidora Goyenechea , the nineteenth century entrepreneur who revolutionized the wine industry in Chile. Riesling cuttings were brought from Germany and have managed to develop in the Maipo Valley with a distinctive personality.
The grapes were hand-picked and selected in the cellar. Then the complete bunch was pressed and we obtained the juice that was decanted in cold for 36 hours. The clean juice was inoculated with selected yeasts to potentiate the floral and fruity character of the variety, as well as to favour a slow fermentation in small stainless steel barrels at a temperature between 12 and 13ºC (54-55ºF). The wine matured during 4 months, it was then clarified, stabilized in cold and underwent a small filtering before bottling.
Pale yellow with golden highlights and aromatic intensity, in which are highlighted nice fruit flavours , such as pineapple and green apple to then give way to its characteristic white floral notes like jasmine and at the end a little honeyed sensation. In the mouth, incredible acidity, good body and freshness. Highlights its citric fruit side, dryness fruit and a long finish.
