Old J’s rum history begins in 1740, when Admiral Edward Vernon put in place a reduction in the strength of the British Navy’s rum ration. This didn’t go down so well with the fleet, and to appease complaints that followed Vernon suggested the addition of limes and sugar to improve the drink - he became an accidental mixologist, and became known as Old Grog.
Old J Rum takes inspiration from and honours this suggestion, using Caribbean rum with a secret blend of spices, sugar, vanilla and Persian lime.
The origins of Old J date back to 1740, when an admiral decided to enforce a reduction in the British Navy's much-loved rum ration. Old J Tiki Fire redresses this historic reduction by increasing the strength to 151 proof, but keeps the spices, lime and sugar that make Old J what it is.
Vanilla aromas on the nose with a slight lime coming through the heavy sweetness. Light on the palate, with the vanilla ever present, and lime flavours cutting through, making this tot rather palatable. It may taste like the original and smell like the original, but Tiki Fire is a different beast. You’ll know it when you feel it.
