Michel Chapoutier started his love-affair with wine at 26. A self-taught enthusiast and a curious visionary he brings to the winery a new approach and a powerful ambition. An idea of wine that soon became all-embracing. “Wine-grower, wine-maker and wine lover”. The choices he made marked a break with past principles and prejudices. A question of audacity and conviction, convictions he shares with his young team. An essential, emblematic choice too: he decided to change the taste associated with Maison M. Chapoutier, to avoid cultivating “a signature taste”, focusing instead on bringing out the difference and specific features of each terroir.
The Luberon Regional Natural Park acts as the setting for the Luberon vineyards. These currently cover 36 communes, which are all situated in the south east of the Vaucluse department. Classified as Mediterranean but under the influence of a more continental climate from the Alps and Rhone Valley. The Luberon ranks among one of the most sun-drenched regions in France with approximately 2,600 hours of sun per year.
Scree (talus) on clay based sand at the foot of the Luberon mountain range.
Grapes are harvested at phenolic ripeness. The wine is vinified in the traditional way from 15 to 21 days. The wine is aged on fine lees in vats from 9 to 12 months.
Intense, brilliant and limpid garnet red colour with purple tints. Complex and delicate aromas with spicy notes (nutmeg and peppered) and black fruit aromas. The palate is frank with a tight tannic structure. The wine is well-balanced on the palate with black fruit aromas (blueberry, blackberry and blackcurrant). This is an elegant and refined wine with a great persistency.
