Ledaig Single Malt Scotch Whisky is produced at the Tobermory Distillery, the only distillery on the picturesque Hebridean Isle of Mull. It name comes from the original name for the area, Ledaig (Led-chig), from the Gaelic, meaning ‘safe haven’.
Ledaig, unlike Tobermory, is distilled from heavily peated malted barley. During the malting process, burning peat is used to dry the barley in a kiln. The reek from the burning peat is absorbed by the barley through the husk of the grain, and the reek remains through the mashing, fermentation and distillation processes, eventually leading to a single malt with a highly distinctive peaty, smoky taste. The result is an intricate Island Malt Scotch Whisky.
This extraordinary and distinguished hand-crafted single malt is the distillery’s signature smoky expression.
For ten full years, oak wood casks lie in rest in ancient vaults. Within them, the aromatic Lochan waters commune with the peated malted barley to create a deep golden treasure that is both floral and smoky.
Ledaig is an exquisite peated single malt, an integral part of the Tobermory family, and sits beautifully alongside their signature malts.
Sweet briny smokiness on the nose with distinct island character and playful notes that hint at mild antiseptic, creosote, wax polish, mint chocolate and floral seaside aromas. Soft peat, gentle smoke. The palate is tantalisingly sweet, medicinal flavours infused with enticing sparks of spicy pepper and dried fruit with rich peaty smoke and a velvety vanilla and malty creaminess.
