Description

Details

The Grapillon d'or estate evokes an authentic family story. Created in 1806, the property has remained in the hands of the Chauvet family to date.

For the past 40 years, Bernard has managed and successfully developed the wine estate. He is now assisted by his daughter, Céline CHAUVET (for 20 years), who manages the delicate process of vinification as well as the business management of the estate.

Since 1893, the date when the Chauvet Family received its first ""gold medal"" at the General Agricultural Fair in Paris, the estate's wines have been regularly rewarded.

The Grapillon d'or domaine has been awarded the highest accolade ""Laureat du Prix d'Excellence 2012 ""chosen from all the wines in the Rhone Valley. This award has been obtained because they have won the largest number of Gold Medals at the "Concours Général Agricole" for the last three years.

This prize honours men and women for the exceptional and constant quality of their products. This distinction was presented at the Ministery of Agriculture on the 20th December 2011.

Vineyards
The parcels are forty years old. The vineyard is essentially situated on the north-south hillsides of Gigondas. There are often a lot of mistral winds. The soil is sandy at the top of the hill and clayish-limestone at the bottom.

Vinification
The vinification is traditional, the grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted. The grapes are destemmed but slightly crushed. The maceration lasts 20 to 25 days to obtain maximum concentration and aromas. This Gigondas is not fined or filtered. The ageing of this wine is done in oak barrels, for 14 months, allowing the wine to air, to acquire roundness and soften its tannins. This wine is Estate-bottled with their own bottling system.
