Description

Details

Grapes have been cultivated in the area of Macul since 1564, when the king of Spain granted the Hacienda Macul to Juan Jufré, a Spanish “conquistador” However it wasn’t until 1856 when Luis Cousino purchased the 1000-acres Macul Estate which already had 54 acres planted with vines.

14 years later the winery was built, followed 2 years later by an underground cellar. In 1970, after the Chilean land reform and with an imminent threat of expropriation of the Cousiño Winery, Carlos Cousiño Subercaseaux along with his father takes on the task to keep the family legacy alive until this very day.

Antiguas Reservas is the emblem wine of the vineyard, with over 80 years in its portfolio. Since its debut in 1927, it has always been a limited selection of the best Cabernet Sauvignon of Cousiño Macul’s vineyards. Along the years, we have maintained its classic style, combining the maturity of the New World, the elegance of the traditional wines and a structure that allows an adequate storage capacity.

The first Antiguas Reservas Chardonnay of Cousiño Macul was made in 1969. Since then, the trademark applies to the appointment of a selection of Chardonnay that represents the finest vintage. The selection process begins in the vineyard with the restriction of yield per plant and continues throughout the entire winemaking process.

Vinification
After a careful hand-picking that began the first days of March, the grapes were brought to the winery, passed through a bunch selection and subsequently pressed. A small percentage of the juice is fermented in new French oak barrels and matures in them for about 6 months. The remaining mixture is fermented in stainless steel in order to enhance and respect the fruit flavors of this strain. Before being bottled we proceed to the mixing of the components, and the wine is then clarified and filtered.
