Bayou Select Rum

Describing itself as 'the rum for bourbon drinkers', Bayou Select is copper pot distilled from Louisiana sugarcane and then aged in the Solera method for up to three years. The result is a creamy rum with a bourbon-esque character,

NOSE: Creamy vanilla with hints of apple and cinnamon

PALATE: Opens with a dry oak-like character reminiscent of an aged bourbon, followed by pronounced cinnamon and maple

FINISH: Dry with long-lasting notes of dark fruit and wood

In 2011, deep in the heart of Sugarcane Country, three childhood friends had a revelation.

Once quietly produced in the backwaters of the Bayou, rum – America’s original spirit – had become a forgotten one.

The ingredient central to rum – sugarcane – had been cultivated in their home state since the 1700s, but no one had yet harnessed this abundant natural resource to create a top-notch, premium rum. They vowed to change that by crafting a Louisiana rum for the world to enjoy.

Two years later, the Bayou Rum Distillery opened their door in Lacassine, LA. Utilizing traditional methods with state-of-the-art technology from fermentation through distillation, maturation and bottling, Bayou Rum has earned its title of #1 Craft Rum in America. Today, Bayou Rum is available throughout the United States and beyond.

Bayou Rum is craft distilled from locally grown sugarcane in Lacassine, Louisiana, USA. Their signature ‘sugarhouse’ recipe uses a blend of 100% natural, unrefined Louisiana sugarcane and molasses. Every batch of Bayou Rum is distilled in copper pots and bottled by hand.

As they built their Solera aging system, their barrels were tipped on their sides, filled with Bayou Rum, and then vertically stacked into a pyramid. The oldest rum barrels ended up right “on the ground” which is the meaning of “solera” in Spanish. When they harvest for a batch, the bottom barrel is tapped for part of its content to be bottled. Then that bottom barrel is topped off from the next oldest barrel above it, which is filled from the next oldest, and so on until they refill the top barrel with new rum to mingle with older aged rum. For the next aging interval, it happens all over again. The benefit is a natural blending process for consistent taste and quality which gets better each time we harvest a batch. The result is delicious Bayou Select Rum.

Taking inspiration from early Louisiana rum makers, Bayou Select Rum aged in American oak casks, resulting in a tipple which should appeal to rum and whisky enthusiasts alike. Matured in bourbon barrels for up to 3 years using the Solera aging method.
